...WHAT TO PACK...

...From Our Many Trips to the Dominican Republic...

I've come up with the following list.

Of course, everyone has different requirements of what to pack for themselves for a trip... but the following list is what I've found is what I need.  It's always the case that you will take too much with you on (at least) your first trip, and, we were by no means an exception to that, but with every trip we make, we discover we use less than we thought we would, so we are taking less and less on each subsequent trip, and I think I've finally gotten the list "just about right"... but it only took me 5 trips to get to this point.   Here's my list:   (Perhaps it will help you. I hope so.)

We take 2 carry-on bags and 2 checked suitcases every trip.   (see below)

Clothing and miscellaneous (FOR ME):
(I've found that I can pack all of these items, plus my toiletries, make-up and medicines in my carry-on bag.)

1 plain t-shirt (short-sleeved) - white (to wear over my swimsuit on those days when I'm sunburned)

1 alarm clock (battery operated) and don't forget new batteries

2 plain t-shirts (short-sleeveless) or other pull-over top - any colour (to wear during the day or to breakfast with my shorts)

1 writing pad, 2 pens

1 plain button-down the front long-sleeved blouse - white (to wear when walking - to keep the sun off)

2 paper back books (put one in your carry-on bag)

2 spaghetti strap dresses - any colour (to wear to supper and/or the evening entertainment and/or dancing - and don't forget your dancing shoes).  I prefer cotton dresses because they are cool and they dry quickly with out too many wrinkles, if they get wet)

1 camera (check camera battery to make sure it's new and working) and film (optional)

1 wrap-around-skirt and 1 spaghetti-strap top (to wear as an alternate breakfast outfit) [If you match it up with the 2 t-shirts you take to wear with shorts, you'll have more outfits]

1 digital camera (optional)

1 underwater camera (optional)

2 pairs of slip- on shorts (for walking) [I usually take one pair in black, and one pair in white, of a thinner fabric]

small flash light and extra set of batteries

1 pair capri pants and t-shirt or pull-over top (to wear to breakfast or casual supper)

contact lenses (if you wear them) and contact lenses cleaner

reading glasses (if you use them)

1 hat and/or sunvisor hat (for walking) [OR BOTH]

small sewing kit and extra spool of thread

3 panties

2 or 3 large safety pins; & 4 or 5 small safety pins

1 pair socks

small length of rope and 6 clothes pins

1 pair of shoes you can dance in

2 large zip-lock bags (to carry home wet clothes)

1 pair velcro sandals or flip flops

2 thin wash clothes

1 coin purse and 1 wallet

1 small laundry bag or pillow case (to carry home dirty clothes)

1 watch

1 cloth beach bag

1 extra (small) EMPTY suitcase, so that we will have a way to bring back coffee, rum and vanilla.

bandaids

sunscreen or sunblock (containing titanium dioxide) [SPF 30] (a must take)

solarcaine

What I will wear on the plane:
(if you decide to wear something else, put these items in your suitcase as you may want them while on vacation)

blue jeans or capri pants

bra and panties

tank top with a button down blouse over top

running shoes and socks

sweater or sweatshirt over that

 my "Canada flag" pin

windbreaker or jeans jacket over that

pull-away pants  (If I go in the wintertime - Jan or Feb  when snow is on the ground - I wear shorts or capri pants with pull-away pants over the top, as that is warmer.  The pull-away pants are flannel lined. When I get there I simply take off the pull-away pants, and am comfortable for the bus ride to the resort in my shorts.)

I will carry my beach bag (instead of taking my purse) with the following items inside:  sun visor hat, sunglasses, contact lenses & contact lenses cleaner, coin purse, wallet, digital camera, 1 paper-back book, our airline tickets, passports, other id (and medical cards), one pen & a small pad of paper.  2 bottles of water, 2 protein food bars and a pack of gum.

What  Tom will wear on the plane:
(if you decide to wear something else, put these items in your suitcase as you may want them while on vacation)

zipper pants (that will turn into shorts)

undies

tank top with a button down shirt over top

running shoes and socks

sweater or sweatshirt over top of that

"Canada flag" pin

windbreaker or jeans jacket over that

belt

He will carry his fanny pack, wallet, coin purse, sunglasses and hat.

ALSO - if we are going to fly on "Air Transat" or on "SkyService" Airlines, we ALWAYS take with us:

The 2 sets of headphones (that we bought on our first trips) so that we can listen to the movie - in flight, rather than having to buy another set of headphones from the air attendants on the plane. (They cost $5 U.S. each).
